FAQ

Common Questions

The questions we hear most often. Need more detail? Book a consultation.

How long can I stay on a Visitor Visa?

Most Tourist stream visas grant 3, 6 or 12 months stay per entry. The Business stream is typically up to 3 months. Sponsored Family stream can grant up to 12 months.

Can I work while on a Visitor Visa?

No. Paid work is not permitted on any Visitor Visa stream, including casual or short-term work. The Business stream allows business activities like meetings and conferences but not direct employment.

Can I extend my visa from inside Australia?

Some Visitor Visas allow an extension by lodging a new application before your current visa expires, but this is increasingly restricted. The original visa often has a "no further stay" condition.

Can I study on a Visitor Visa?

Yes, but only short courses up to 3 months in total. For longer study, you need a Student Visa (Subclass 500).

Do I need travel insurance?

Health insurance is strongly recommended (and is compulsory for Sponsored Family stream applicants over 75). Australia's healthcare can be expensive without insurance.

My visa was refused. Can I reapply?

Yes, but you need to address the refusal reasons in your new application. Repeated refusals on the same grounds make future applications increasingly difficult — we can review the refusal decision and advise.
